Your Local Costco Photo Printing Service Will Close This Week
(NEXSTAR) – It’s time to dig deep in your closet and pull out that old disposable camera or undeveloped roll of film because you’re running out of time to get photos developed at your nearby Costco photo printing service. .
In an announcement posted on the major chain’s photo center page, the company confirmed that it will be closing photo centers at all locations on Sunday, February 14. With the change, passport photo services, ink refills and photo restoration work will end.
Since news of the move started leaking last month, some photography enthusiasts and professionals have taken to social media to express their surprise at losing the affordable print option.
“Just to add some perspective, a costco 20×30 print (on an Epson printer and Epson luster paper) is $9.99. The same print at a photo lab is $50.00,” one user wrote from Twitter @klizana.
Others suggested they hoped it would lead to more business at local print shops.
The company is not exiting the print business entirely, but rather shifting entirely to a delivery model. The company says the following services will remain open for shipping to homes and businesses.
- Prints, enlargements and posters
- Stationery and photo greeting cards
- Canvas, metal and acrylic prints
- Photo books and calendars
- Photo Blankets and Other Photo Gifts
- Professional printing products
