Classic Stills Releases Doctor Who Art Prints

Classic Stills, a publisher of rare and iconic photographs based in Los Angeles and London, in conjunction with BBC Studios – Americas, is launching a limited edition collection of images from the BBC show, Doctor Who. This will be the first time in its 55-year history that archival photographs from the exhibition will be available as gallery-quality fine art prints.

Doctor Who fans are invited to help organize the collection by suggesting the classic Doctor Who scene or moment they would most like to hang on their wall. One entry will be chosen to go into the collection, with the lucky fan also receiving a copy of their chosen draw. The winning entry will be announced on Doctor Who Day, November 23, 2018, the 55th anniversary of the series premiere episode, when William Hartnell played the role.

“We are delighted to invite Doctor Who fans to help us curate the first official art print collection in the show’s history,” said CEO Rene Freling. “The collection will open up the BBC Photo Archive in a new and unique way, and feature images dating back to the very first Doctor.” Alongside the competition, Classic Stills will also release 100 numbered copies of a photograph taken on the show’s set featuring the reboot’s second Doctor, David Tennant. The 16″x20″ framed prints will be available to purchase October 25 for $295 / £249. “We’re so excited to offer Doctor Who fans a taste of what’s to come – and 100 lucky fans the chance to own the first Doctor Who art stills ever to go on sale,” said Freling said.

The main Doctor Who collection, launching in December, will feature more rare and iconic photography from the series, including on-set, behind-the-scenes and publicity photos. All images in Classic Stills are developed using the chromogenic (C-print) printing process and are printed on archival quality photo paper. Each print is framed meticulously by hand, includes an acid-free mat and hinge, and is UV protected acrylic to prevent fading.
