Kodak Moments launches new premium photo printing platform designed to help people more easily celebrate the moments that matter to them

The new platform is designed to respond to the belief that authentic moments are harder to identify in today’s culture. By helping people more easily interact with their memories – new and old – the platform’s design is inspired by a “Kodak moment”, a phrase so ingrained in the global lexicon that it has recently entered the the Oxford Dictionary and currently has over 450,000 hashtags on Instagram alone.

An estimate from InfoTrends suggests that 1.2 trillion photos will be taken worldwide in 2017, with 4.7 trillion photos stored digitally. However, with people taking more photos than ever before and with thousands of photos buried in digital devices, studies suggest that today’s culture is losing the ability to commemorate the most important authentic memories.

An independent commissioned survey showed that 55% of Americans think today’s culture is losing its ability to identify what is authentic and meaningful, and 44% think they struggle to recognize the moments in life that matter most.

The platform offers two industry-first features to directly address this issue and make it easier to rediscover your most memorable moments.

In the Kodak Moments app, Made for You™ searches images buried in mobile device films to identify the most meaningful photos and display them on Kodak Moments products. “The app now leverages our unique image science capabilities and is designed to automatically surface your most important memories from your camera roll on your phone or device,” said David Newhof, Vice President of Product, Kodak Moments Division. “It’s intuitive, simple and constantly reminds you of your key moments in everyday life.”

Moments Assistant™ is a Facebook Messenger bot that helps users find important moments buried in their Facebook albums. It conversationally suggests images to print, where most keep photos today – Facebook. Kodak Moments plans to offer the bot throughout the launch. For customers who find and share a photo identified by Moments Assistant™, Kodak Moments offers a free Moments Card that can be mailed anywhere in the continental United States.

To raise awareness of the launch, Kodak Moments is launching its largest national advertising campaign developed with Chapter, a San Franciscobased on an Experience Design Studio that also developed the Moments Assistant. The campaign was created in collaboration with Martin Parrthe Magnum photographer renowned for capturing the moments most missed.

The “Kodak Moments Project”, a collaboration between Martin Parr, DMB and Chapter, documents eight groups of people on film and in photographs to capture and celebrate the real and authentic moments of their lives. Films and photographs can be viewed at kodakmoments.com.
